Industrial-Grade Heat Pump Systems for Burnaby Warehouses

Warehouses and industrial facilities in Burnaby are concentrated along the Deer Lake Business Park, Douglas Road industrial corridor, and the south Burnaby industrial zone bordering New Westminster. These facilities range from light commercial warehousing operations to heavy manufacturing environments with specific temperature requirements for product storage or process control.

Industrial heat pump systems are different from residential or light commercial systems in several important ways. Ceiling heights of 5 to 10+ metres mean conventional wall-mounted units are impractical — high-static ducted systems with ceiling-mounted air handlers or large commercial rooftop units are typically required. The sheer volume of air that needs to be conditioned demands systems with significantly higher capacity than residential or small commercial equipment.

For warehouse spaces used primarily for storage, maintaining a consistent temperature band — typically between 10°C and 18°C — is the primary goal. Refrigeration for product storage is a separate discipline, but for ambient temperature control, heat pump systems are highly effective and significantly more efficient than gas-fired unit heaters.

For light manufacturing and distribution facilities where workers are present throughout the space, the comfort conditioning requirement is more specific. We design systems that provide adequate heating and cooling at the occupied zone — typically 2 metres above the floor — rather than trying to condition the full warehouse volume to an indoor comfort level.

Loading dock areas require special consideration. Every time a loading dock door opens, a significant volume of warm or conditioned air is lost. We factor dock activity patterns into our system sizing to ensure the facility can maintain target temperatures even during peak loading and unloading operations.
